Updates & fixes

The planner is still being worked on. Tax rules move, edge cases turn up, and buyers write in with things they have spotted. This page lists what has changed lately, and how to pick up the newest version at no extra cost.

Already bought it? Updates are free

Your original download link keeps working, and always serves the current version. Go back to the thank-you page you were sent after your purchase — the one you were asked to bookmark — and download again. You will get the newest build, at no extra cost.

The planner is a one-time purchase. There is no upgrade fee and no subscription; you simply download the newer file and open it in place of the old one.

Lost the link, or moving your plan across

If you no longer have the thank-you page, email dev@webnomad.org with your Stripe receipt and we will send it back to you.

Your saved work is not affected by updating. Export your plan as a JSON file from the old copy, open the new one, and import it — every figure comes across. Plans made in an earlier version load in a later one.

July 2026

  • v208–v209

Income after an account runs dry is now exact · 25 July

Withdrawals are now limited to what an account can actually provide. Previously, if a pot emptied in an early phase, the planner carried on showing income from it in later phases — which also inflated the tax and MAGI figures, and could raise an ACA or IRMAA warning that would never really have happened. Affected rows now show what is genuinely available, alongside the amount you set, with a note of the age the account ran out. Your own figures are never overwritten, so you can still try a larger withdrawal and undo it.

  • v205

    State pension-deduction caps · 23 July

States that cap how much retirement income can be deducted, such as Colorado's $24,000, are now modelled properly rather than exempting the whole amount.

  • v202–v203

See how any figure was calculated · 23 July

Click a federal tax, state tax, ACA or Medicare figure on a phase card and a panel explains how that number was arrived at. The state-tax line is now shown even when it is $0, so you can tell the difference between "no state tax" and "not modelled".

  • v201

Medicare IRMAA surcharges count as a real cost · 23 July

When income crosses the IRMAA threshold, the Part B and D surcharge is now added to that phase's healthcare cost and deducted from net income. Previously it only raised a warning, which understated what a high-income phase actually costs you.

  • v199

Phase boundary aligned to RMD age 73 · 20 July

The Phase 4 / Phase 5 split now lines up with the age required minimum distributions begin, so the RMD years sit cleanly in their own phase.

  • v198

    Clearer survivor-benefit guidance · 19 July

Better in-app guidance on what to enter for a surviving spouse, and how Social Security differs from a pension in that situation.

  • v197

Ask the AI about a plan comparison · 18 July

When you compare a saved plan against your current one, a button sends both to the AI and asks it to explain the trade-off in plain English — why one ends with a larger balance or a smaller tax bill.

  • v196

Euro added as a seventh currency · 15 July

EUR joins USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, PHP and THB, using the same expatriate model as the Philippine peso and Thai baht — useful if you are retiring to the eurozone.

  • v191–v194

AI chat refinements · 2 July

A steadier chat layout with the input pinned to the bottom, the model shown above it, and the send button disabled until you have actually typed something.

June 2026

  • v188

Use the AI provider you already have · 29 June

The AI features are no longer tied to one company. Choose Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, a local Ollama model that needs no key at all, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. The planner keeps a separate key per provider and discovers each one's current models on its own, so new models appear without waiting for an app update.

Smaller maintenance builds are not listed individually. If you are curious whether a specific fix made it in, just ask.

The longer view

How the planner has grown

Versions 1 to 5 are still sold as simpler, cheaper tools for people who do not need the full picture. Versions 6 and 7 build on them. Each one is a single file you own outright.

Version 1 — the core planner

Month-by-month retirement income across life phases: 401(k), cash and equities, Social Security, UK State Pension, Medicare, ACA costs, tax estimates and charts, for a single filer.

Version 2 — Roth and couples

Married filing jointly, a spouse's Social Security, Roth balances, withdrawals and conversions, plus the Social Security Optimizer for comparing claiming ages.

Version 3 — rental income and RMDs

Rental and other passive income, and estimates of the required minimum distributions that begin in your seventies.

Version 4 — Canada, Australia and custom phases

CPP and OAS, Superannuation and the Age Pension, plus the ability to set your own phase boundary ages instead of the US defaults.

Version 5 — the complete planner

Separate Social Security claiming ages, stress testing, six drawdown strategies (the 4% rule, variable percentage, three buckets, floor & upside, guardrails and Monte Carlo) and Plan Health confidence scoring.

Version 6 — a planner you can talk to

A built-in AI advisor that reads your plan, one-click tax-rate updates, an annuity calculator, and a whole educational layer: explainers beside the confusing fields, a glossary, video tutorials and a "concepts to learn" panel.

Version 7 — sharper, broader, more accessible

The current release. More accurate Social Security taxation using the IRS provisional-income method, Net Investment Income Tax, the IRMAA two-year lookback, optional state income tax, a Full Retirement Age set from your birth year, separate healthcare inflation, inflation-aware Monte Carlo, survivor modelling with coordinated couples' claiming, the Plan-with-AI co-pilot and "Ask AI about this" buttons throughout — plus a high-contrast theme and larger text options.
